About Imposter Word
Imposter Word on ito.gg is a pass-the-phone deduction game designed for 3 to 12 players sharing a single screen. Everyone at the table receives the same secret word except the chosen imposters, who receive a closely related near-synonym.
Each round draws from a built-in library of 121 curated word pairs across five themes, covering everyday objects, tech terms, foods, places, and activities. The pass-and-play interface ensures words stay private with shielded reveal screens that cannot be reopened.
Once all players have seen their words, put the device down and share one-sentence clues in turn. Debate the inconsistencies, cast your votes, and unlock the final table view to discover who was telling the truth and who was bluffing.
FAQ
How many players can join a round?
The game supports 3 to 12 players on one shared screen. You can set anywhere from one imposter up to one fewer than the total number of players, with one imposter per four players offering the most balanced match.
How does the pass-the-phone reveal protect secret words?
Each seat requires two separate button taps before displaying the secret word. Once a player views their word and taps the hide button, the turn advances immediately to the next player with no way to navigate backward.
Does the game decide who wins?
No. The app deals the words and keeps them private. The group gives clues, votes out loud, then taps Show the table to reveal every seat and both words.
Can we customize the word categories?
Yes. The setup screen lets you toggle any of the five available word packs: Tech and AI, Everyday things, Food and drink, Places, and Activities. At least one pack must remain active for each deal.
Is any game data saved between rounds?
Your total completed rounds counter is stored locally in your browser. All role assignments and word selections run directly on your device without transmitting data or requiring an account.
